Production Diary - Session 3

This lesson we had to discuss our ideas to the whole class. We showed them both the Katy Perry songs and they all agreed that the songs are different in mood and created very different scenes in their heads. The class gave us really good positive feedback saying that the songs can go in totally different ways and can see very different music video for these songs. They did however see more potential in the song ‘Not like the movies’ rather than the ‘I’m still breathing’ song.

The feedback we got for 'Not like the Movies' was:

  • At the beginning there is a piano playing so somebody could be playing the piano
  • The video to black in white, in which I totally agree as I can see this in black and white as well
  • Maybe the girl actually reading Disney books as there are references to Disney characters in the song
  • Bad and good flashbacks of a couple being together
  • The good flashbacks being more her fantasy/ dream
  • Looking out the window and then seeing the good and bad flashbacks
  •  Another person said they could see a girl walking through a city, in front of the theatres, on the street
  • The discussion then progressed when another member of the class said they could see a girl crying with running makeup in a dress on a grotty sofa with a flashing tv screen in her face, laying on her bed or running and crying

The feedback for 'I'm Still Breathing' was not as good as the first song. However the mood of the song provoked some ideas which were:
  • Girl on the street – trying to be strong
  • A funeral of a man; maybe the girl loved him but didn’t tell him
  • They were both meant to die but she survived and she makes a speech at his funeral but then she wasn’t the one who survived and the man comes through the church doors to say his speech.
  • This could be set up in a church.
  • Putting a flower by a gravestone.
  • Gothic feel to it.
  • A girl preparing herself to go to a funeral
