Production Diary - Session 38

As the computers at school have not been capturing properly, me and the girls have had a lot of time to really think about the progress of our music video so far. We all agreed that we weren't happy with the current progress because we had stuck so closely to the story-line that it looked more like a soap opera than a creative music video. We want every opportunity that we can get to express our individual creativeness and we couldn't do that with what we had filmed.

We are keeping our song and our background work as we are not stemming away too much from our original idea. We still have the same story-line (failing engagement and fantasies about a fairy-tale) but we are branching out from it to include more creative shots. Over the weekend, we annotated a copy of the lyrics with new ideas for shots, much of mine being shot outside and more technical during post-production. We presented these to each other and drafted a new copy of our lyrics and the running of our music video.

Tomorrow, we are going to the park to film my new shots and on Friday, we have an inset day so the girls, Josh and I will film the next lot of scenes. We can then give the tape to our Media teacher who will be going to another school to capture the footage as our computer's still aren't working properly.

This was a decision that feels completely right for us right now and we all believe that being more abstract than soap opera is what is needed to really make our music video a success!
